MEET PARALEGAL DENISE CRAGILL

Denise attended Catholic school through 4th grade, then public schools. Graduated from Shasta High School in 1976 (our country’s centurion bday) and also graduated from Shasta College with an Associated Arts Degree in Medical Assisting. Denise also received her State Certificate as an MA. But Redding was still a small town in 1979, and medical facilities were still hiring LVN for the same positions as MAs.

Denise, being the type who does not give up, used her front office education, and landed a job with attorney Dennis Cowan at the age of 26 years. Started as a receptionist and worked her way up to legal assistant. With that Greek drive, and the honor of having Dennis Cowan as her mentor took online classes and received her paralegal certificate, specializing in Chapter 13, 11, 12 and 9s. During this time Denise was also raising four kids, two girls and two boys.

When Dennis Cowan was about to retire, and her husband had been working in Eureka California, she was hired by the Janssen firm in Eureka. Her youngest 2 children had graduated from high school and were doing well here in Redding. The Janssen firm was a personal injury law firm, but after the expense of a very large class action suit there were cutbacks, and she was let go in a year. With the help of Judge Clement and becoming friends with attorney Tom Hjerpe, Denise worked from home as an independent paralegal for a few of her bankruptcy attorney friends in Redding.

This is how Denise met Catherine King. It has most likely been at least 15 years ago. She started working with Catherine from her home in Eureka, but bankruptcy filings decreased, and somehow, because of the need, she ended up working at the same company her husband worked for and became an office manager for Eureka Glass. Next thing she knew, Denise was the office manager running a shop in Arcata, and then McKinleyville while still doing some work with Catherine as needed.

Denise left Eureka in 2022 to come back to her hometown here in Redding to be blessed with a fuller part time job with Catherine and has not looked back since. She loves her work; loves more the people she works with and being part of the King Law Office team.
Denise is also blessed with being close to her grown children and four grandchildren, soon to be five grandchildren.
